How do I become a volunteer?
To become a volunteer, please fill out our online application form or call our office. We require an orientation session and a criminal record check for all new volunteers to ensure the safety and comfort of our community members.
What is the time commitment required?
Volunteering is flexible! Some of our volunteers offer a few hours a week, while others help a few times a month. We work around your schedule to find matches that fit your availability and interests.

What services do you provide?
We provide a wide range of free services including drives to medical and social appointments, companion visits, grocery shopping assistance, light gardening, and simple chores to help residents stay independent.
Who is eligible to receive services?
Any adult living in Oak Bay, who is able to make decisions independently.

Social Prescribing Questions
What is Social Prescribing?
A relationship-based approach that enables health and social care professionals to refer individuals to local, non-clinical services, such as volunteer support, cultural programming, food security programs, transportation assistance, social groups, or wellness activities, to improve wellbeing and address social determinants of health. Social prescribing recognizes that health is shaped by social context and seeks to strengthen community connection, autonomy, and belonging.
Donation Questions
How can I donate to your organization?
Donations can be made online through our website, by mail, or in person at our office. We appreciate all contributions which help us keep our services free for the community.
Will I receive a tax receipt?
Yes, Oak Bay Volunteer Services is a registered charity. We provide official tax receipts for all monetary donations over $20.

Where is your office located?
We are located below the Monterey Recreation Centre at 1442 Monterey Ave, Victoria, BC. We welcome community members to drop by during office hours.
What are your regular office hours?
Our office is generally open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, closed from Noon to 1 PM for lunch. We recommend calling us at (250) 595-1034 before your visit to ensure someone is available to assist you.

Are my personal details kept private?
Absolutely. We follow strict confidentiality protocols and privacy legislation to ensure that all information concerning our volunteers and clients remains protected and secure.
Can I request a specific volunteer for my services?
We understand the importance of rapport. While we cannot guarantee a specific volunteer due to scheduling and availability, we do our best to honor requests and maintain consistency for our clients.
