Become a Volunteer

Interested in volunteering with OBVS? Join a community where neighbours support neighbours, and where your unique skills and ideas can make a real difference. Our volunteers contribute in many ways, whether that means driving someone to an appointment, sharing a cup of tea, walking along Beach Drive, helping with small repairs at home, or supporting someone as they learn how to use a new phone or computer. We also welcome creative ideas and are always open to exploring new services when they respond to an unmet need. We invite you to explore our Programs and Services pages to discover the full range of volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers must be 19 years or older and able to commit to at least six months of service, ideally volunteering once a week or on a regular basis. A criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance is required. Those interested in driving as part of their role must also hold a valid driver’s licence, provide a current driver’s abstract with no major incidents, and carry appropriate liability insurance.

Post-secondary students are encouraged to inquire about practicum placement opportunities and the chance to learn alongside our staff team in a supportive, community-based environment.

Receive Services

Need a hand? At OBVS, receiving services is simply another way neighbours support neighbours. Whether you are a post-secondary student needing a ride to pick up groceries with a friendly visit along the way, a busy single parent who could use a hand fixing a leaky faucet, or an older neighbour wanting help with a new cellphone or a walking companion, we are here to help. Our team works with you to understand what would be most helpful and connects you with trusted volunteers who provide practical, relationship-based support.
